AT-N02A: 3 Days & 2 Nights: Tabin
Duration: 3 Days & 2 Nights
Day 01
MASwings/MH3010: ETD 0700 & ETA 0755 OR MASwings/MH3014: ETD 1035 & ETA 1130.
Travel from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road for about one hour. Check into Tabin Wildlife Resort which is located alongside the Lipad River and nestled within the rainforest where a variety of birds, insects and even small mammals can be seen quite easily. After lunch, visit the Lipad mud volcano which serves as a mineral salt lick for wildlife. After trekking through the jungle for twenty minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare area and its surrounding thick forest where birds are commonly sighted. After dinner, enjoy a slide presentation on Tabin’s uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds (weather permitted).
Day 02
Take a dawn-drive to look out for wildlife that is active at this time of the day (optional). Join the morning bird walk as Tabin has about 300 bird species. After breakfast, trek through the jungle to visit Lipad’s Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool or explore the surrounding vegetation leisurely. Return to the resort for lunch and in the afternoon you can try Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak (optional) for relaxation.
Day 03
After breakfast feel free to explore the vicinity of the resort where you may encounter some small mammals and birds. After lunch, depart at 1430 from Tabin to Lahad Datu Airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu. MASwings/MH3023: ETD 1725 & ETA 1820. END OF SERVICE. |
AT-N02B: 4 Days & 3 Nights: Tabin & Mud Volcano
Duration: 4 Days & 3 Nights
Day 01
MASwings/MH3010: ETD 0700 & ETA 0755 OR MASwings/MH3014: ETD 1035 & ETA 1130.
Travel from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road for about one hour. Register and attend a briefing. Pack necessary items needed for the night out and after lunch trek through the jungle for twenty minutes to arrive at an elevated bare area of the mud volcano. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare area and its surrounding thick forest where birds are commonly sighted. The guide will set up camp for the night at the observation tower. Spend the night at the observation tower to observe any visits of wildlife to drink water at the mud volcano during dusk, night and dawn times (weather permitted).
Day 02
After breakfast return to Tabin Wildlife Resort to rest after your night out in the jungle. Spend the rest of the day at leisure and observe nature surrounding the resort. After dinner, attend a slide presentation on Tabin’s uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds (weather permitted).
Day 03

Day 01

Travel from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road for about one hour. Register and attend a briefing. After lunch, explore the vicinity of the resort at leisure and you will be pleasantly surprised by the abundance of bird life found here (information on birds is available upon request). After dinner, attend a slide presentation on Tabin’s uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds (weather permitted).
Day 02
After an early breakfast, depart for Lipad mud volcano with packed lunch. Trek through the jungle for twenty minutes to arrive at an elevated bare area of the mud volcano. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare area and its surrounding thick forest where birds are commonly sighted (information on birds is available upon request). If time permits you may trek along the Tomanggong Road to add a few more bird species on to your list. After dinner, take a guided night walk to discover more nocturnal bird species (weather permitted).
Day 03
After an early breakfast, you will depart for birding along the road leading to the Core Area of Tabin Wildlife Reserve. The fully re-generated secondary forest with its relatively lower canopy and good natural light provide an excellent environment for birding experience. Trek through the jungle for twenty minutes to arrive at an elevated bare area of the mud volcano. Picnic lunch will be set up overlooking picturesque river or valley. After dinner, spend your time at leisure.
Day 04

AT-N02D: 4 Days & 3 Nights Tabin & Photography
Duration: 4 Days & 3 Nights
Day 01

Arrive at Lahad Datu, pick up and transfer by land to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Register and check into Tabin Wildife Resort. After lunch, participants will have an Ice-breaking session, followed by classroom session to get to know your camera and its accessories better. Take a late afternoon stroll to the nearby reserve road for a practical photo shoot. After dinner, review and evaluation of photos taken.
Day 02
Early morning short walk along the reserve road to capture images of birds and landscape. Return to resort for breakfast. Trek to Lipad mud volcano for exploration and photo shoot. After jungle- trekking for 20 minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano where you can try to identify the multitude of animal footprints. The soccer field-sized Lipad mud volcano serves as a mineral salt lick for wildlife and birds. Nature photo subjects abound here. The adventurous can try the effects of the volcanic mud, said to be responsible for a fine complexion. Climb the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare area and its surrounding thick forest. Further photo shoot at the vicinity of the resort, followed by an evaluation/critique session. After dinner, go for a night walk to discover nocturnal wildlife and practice taking night scenes (weather permitted).
Day 03
Today is the day out to the core area road lined by interesting rainforest trees where wildlife species such as the Borneon Gibbon and the Grey leaf macaques may be sighted. Birds are a common sight here during the season. Try the more challenging skill of capturing images of moving birds, wildlife, insects and plants. In the evening there will be another class evaluation of images taken, as well as teaching on the processing and editing technique, storage and organisation of digital images.
Day 04
After breakfast, free to wonder around. You can engage in more photo-taking of birds and perhaps small mammals in the surrounding garden and riverside, or choose to interact with fellow participants to exchange knowledge and experiences. After an early lunch, depart from Tabin (ETD 1130) for Lahad Datu Town (ETA 1300). Continue your land journey for another 2½ hours from Lahad Datu to Semporna (ETA 1530). Depart for Mabul at 1600; the boat journey takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the sea or weather condition. Arrive at Mabul Island and proceed for briefing, registration and check-in. NO DIVING on the first day. (One of the Boat-Dives the following day is an orientation dive with a divemaster).
Day 04 & 05
03 Boat-Dives (with Divemaster): Combination of Sipadan / Si Amil / Mantabuan / Kapalai / Mabul. Diving at Sipadan is NOT guaranteed.
Day 06
NOTE: NO DIVING 24HRS BEFORE FLIGHT
Free at leisure in the morning. Make sure the bar bill must be settled and all belongings must be cleared upon check out.
