AT-N01A: 2 Days & 1 Night: Turtle Islands Adventure
Duration: 2 Days & 1 Night
Day 01
MASwings/MH3039: ETD 0740 & ETA 0830. Meet and greet at Sandakan airport and proceed to Sabah Parks jetty for a boat transfer that leaves at 0930am for Selingan Turtle Islands Park. The journey to the island will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Upon arrival, register at Turtle Island Parks HQ and check into a chalet. At 1200 have lunch at the cafeteria and then free at own leisure. You can choose to laze around the beach or snorkel while waiting for the evening’s event. The west side of the island provides an ideal place for this as it is clean, quiet and offers some interesting coral and sea life for a decent day’s snorkelling. After dinner, wait for rangers call to observe turtle laying eggs. Rangers will transfer the eggs to the hatchery and if there are young turtle hatchlings, there is an opportunity to observe the release of baby turtles to the open sea. Then overnight at chalet (Common or Attached Bathroom).
Day 02
After an early breakfast, depart for the mainland at 7.00a.m. Then transfer to Sandakan Airport (ETA 0900) for the return flight to Kota Kinabalu. MASwings/MH3092: ETD 1105 & ETA 1155. END OF SERVICE. |

The final stretch of the drive takes you through graveled roads and jeep tracks of plantation estates. Upon arrival, proceed to the observation area; visitors will have the delight of having a reasonably close encounter and magnificent sight of these elusive monkeys. Found in most coastal areas of Borneo, they live in groups of 11-32 and almost exclusively in mangrove forests near fresh water and in lowland rainforests. Viewing time is at 1130.
Depart at 1230 for Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre; lunch is provided at a café in Sepilok. After lunch proceed to the feeding platform for the standard 03:00pm feeding time of the primates. Watch a short but informative video show of the primates and the centre’s role in rehabilitation project before leaving for Sandakan.
